Amazon Listing Images Guidelines: A Practical Checklist

Desprot Design · · Listing images

Check your Amazon listing images before upload: main-image requirements, useful supporting shots, readable text and a simple quality-control workflow.

Amazon listing images guidelines are the starting point for a usable image set. Before designing, confirm the rules for your product category and marketplace in Seller Central. A main image and a supporting image serve different jobs, so do not apply one template to every slot.

Separate compliance from creative decisions

Amazon requires a compliant main product image. Its requirements cover the background, product presentation and prohibited additions. Review the current Amazon product image requirements before exporting. Category-specific exceptions can matter, and platform guidance can change.

Keep a copy of the rule you checked in the project brief. Then record the marketplace, category, product variant and exact items included in the purchase. This makes approval more precise than asking whether an image simply “looks right.”

Give each supporting image a clear question

Our suggested planning method is to write one shopper question above each draft. What arrives in the box? How large is it? How is it used? Which details distinguish this variant? If two panels answer the same question, consider combining them and using the space for missing information.

  • Use a clear product view to establish what is being sold.
  • Show scale or dimensions where size affects the buying decision.
  • Use a lifestyle scene to explain an appropriate use case.
  • Show a close-up when material, finish or construction matters.
  • Check that any accessory shown is either included or clearly explained.

Review the exported files, not only the design canvas

Open the final files at the size shoppers will see. Check small text, color contrast, cropping and product edges. A large working file can still produce a poor export if it has been compressed too heavily. Confirm the uploaded version uses the approved artwork and the correct variant.

Finish with a simple review log: file name, purpose, product fact checked, approval owner and upload status. A consistent review process helps prevent mismatched packaging, missing parts and outdated claims from entering the listing.
